Letchworth Garden City Population 32,107 (correct 2000) Letchworth is about 40 miles North of London, there are very good road, rail and air links. The Town Centre and the industrial areas are less than 5 minutes drive from the A1M motorway. Rail links are out of London Kings Cross, Finsbury Park or Moorgate with an average journey time of 40 minutes, there are also connections from both Heathrow and Gatwick airports. London Luton airport is about 10 miles from the town. |

Norton Common a short walk from town has over 60 acres of un-spoilt grassland and woods this also close to the historic Roman highway the Icknield Way. Letchworth was the worlds first Garden City, originally Letchworth was just a village dating back to the 12th century but the story of the Garden City started in 1903. The idea came from a book written in 1898 by Ebenezer Howard called "Tomorrow: a Peaceful Path to Real Reform." Other towns close by also have historical interest, Hitchin, Cambridge and St Albans are all within easy reach. |
