There
continues to be little movement in the top ten with Nelly
Furtado, Westlife, Atomic Kitten and Wheatus hanging on in
there. The Gorillaz also stayed in the top ten and
returned to their highest peak of number 4 with 'Clint
Eastwood'.
This week
looks like being a quiet week for singles so those artists
could end up retaining their top ten run...
If anyone
can topple the Hearsay crew it could be Emma Bunton.
Her debut single with Tin Tin Out was edged out by Geri
Halliwell but with no such competition this time around
(Geri's new single 'It's Raining Men' is due for release
on 16th of this month) her path could well be clear to the
top. 'What Took You So Long' isn't the finest song
she has done but is reasonably catchy, enjoying plenty of
radio and TV attention and will take some beating in this
weeks chart.
Also standing a good chance
of another chart topper are Modjo who are back with
another stunning dance single 'Chillin'. It is
similar in sound to their debut number one 'Lady (Hear Me
Tonight)' and is probably the best single released this
week. 'Lady (Hear Me Tonight)' was always going to
be a hard act to follow but 'Chillin' does that and may
well see the group score a second chart topper.
Hoping to
follow the top ten success of 'Shining Star' are Ash who
come back with another slab of guitar pop entitled 'Burn
Baby Burn'. It comes on a variety of formats
including a DVD single, a format used to good effect by
the Popstars over the past three weeks. The limit of
three chart counting formats means that there is no room
for a cassette single but hopefully that wont dent the
groups chance of another top ten hit this weekend.
Just as the
UK had Hearsay, the Australian version of the Popstars TV
programme spawned Bardot who entered at number one in
their native country with 'Poison'. This week they
will attempt to do the same here though I personally feel
they won't quite achieve the same success. Just as
'Pure and Simple' was a very ordinary song which would
have passed the public by had the hype surrounding the
programme not have been in place, 'Poison' is a run of the
mill pop song which is sung by five attractive young
ladies. That's about all I can say about it really!
The King Is Dead. Long
Live The King! Yes, Elvis Presley is back with a new
single to coincide with the release of his 'Live Greatest
Hits' CD. 'Suspicious Minds' was a number two hit
for Elvis back in 1969 and if successful this will be his
first chart hit for three years. The King has
already spent an impressive total of 1168 weeks on the
single chart and will be looking to extend his lead over
Cliff Richard who has spent over 1130 weeks on the chart.
With his loyal following I expect to see him back in the
top 40 on Sunday.
Feeder burst onto the scene
back in 1997 with 'Tangerine' though they had to wait
until later on that same year for 'High' to become their
first top forty hit. Nothing could have prepared
them for their emergence as a top five band this year with
'Buck Rogers' and now they will look to build on that
success with 'Seven Days In The Sun'. While I expect
it to be top ten, I don't expect it to scale the dizzy
heights set by 'Buck Rogers'. It's much less catchy,
and will do well to make the top few places on the chart.
Pop Stars are getting
younger and younger. Kaci is just 13 while Britney
and Christina are beginning to look positively past it!
Lil Bow Wow is the latest child star and at just 12 years
old he must be the youngest to date. 'Bow Wow
(That's My Name)' relies upon some help from Snoop Dogg
himself and also enlists Jermaine Durpi behind the mixing
desk. The result is quite impressive for a musician
so young and this is likely to enter the UK top twenty
come Sunday afternoon.
So will it be Emma, Hearsay
or Modjo that triumph this weekend. Popular money
would be on Ms Bunton but I may stick my neck out and say
Modjo will be number one on Sunday. See you in seven
days to see if I am right.
