There were five new entries, eleven climbers, twenty two songs going down and two non movers on this weeks chart. Katy Perry featuring Snoop Dogg held on for a second week at the top with 'California Gurls' though they had to withstand a strong challenge from B.o.B. featuring Hayley Williams who climbed ten places to no.2 with 'Airplanes'.

Kylie Minogue went back up three places to no.3 with 'All The Lovers' while Enrique Iglesias featuring Pitbull went straight in at no.4 with 'I Like It'. K'naan dropped three to no.5 with 'Wavin' Flag' and Eminem featuring Rihanna went up a place to no.6 with 'Love The Way You Lie'.  'Alejandro' also climbed a place to no.7 for Lady Gaga but Example fell four to no.8 with 'Kickstarts'.  Kelly Rowland featuring David Guetta went up four to no.9 with 'Commander' and Eminem concluded proceedings in the top ten with 'Not Afraid' falling five to no.10. There was one new entry and one climber in what was left of the top twenty.  Skepta got a new entry at no.14 with 'Rescue Me' and Alicia Keys climbed back up a place to no.19 with 'Try Sleeping With A Broken Heart'.

There were three new entries and five climbers in the lower half of the chart. Edward Maya featuring Vika Jigulina climbed back up eight to no.21 with 'Stereo Love' and Rihanna went up one to no.22 with 'Te Amo'. Alexandra Burke featuring Pitbull climbed back up one to no.23 with 'All Night Long' and Shakira featuring Freshlyround went up two to no.25 with 'Waka Waka (This Time For Africa)'. Marco Calliari got a new entry at no.26 with 'We Speak No Americano' and Train went up two to no.30 with 'Hey Soul Sister'.  Justin Bieber entered at no.33 with 'Somebody To Love' and Plan B went straight in at no.36 with 'Prayin''.

"The club is alive...with the sound of music" may be one of the worst lines ever used on a record but unfortunately its the one that sums up the brand new JLS single 'The Club Is Alive'. Few people could have foretold just how well their career would have taken off post their X Factor appearance with two number one singles, another top ten single and a number one album. This single release precedes the release of their second album which is due later this year, and they also have a UK tour planned which will take them well into 2011. They won two Brit awards last year for British Breakthrough and British Single (for 'Beat Again') and two MOBOs for Best Song ('Beat Again') and Best Newcomer. This has more than a decent chance of going straight in at the top next weekend but for me this is not quite at the standard achieved on their first album.

Former Blue lead singer Lee Ryan opened his account as a solo artist very well with his self titled debut album making the top ten with sales of over 100k. In addition each of the three singles from it made the top twenty including the biggest hit 'Army Of Lovers' which made no.3. He has been spending his time recently working on his second album 'Confessions' which will be released on the Geffen label. This week sees the release of 'I Am Who I Am / Secret Love', the first single to be taken from it and it is supported by a variety of mixes including Crazy Cousins, Nu Addiction and Ian Carey. It was written by Mini Viva who themselves have been searching for a hit since their 'I Left My Heart In Tokyo' debut.  Blue are largely now forgotten and as such interest in Ryan's solo career won't be what it was.  Overall this still may make the top forty but I don't expect 'Confessions' to repeat the top ten success of its predecessor.

US r'n'b singer Kelis has already enjoyed one top ten hit earlier this year in the shape of 'Acapella' which was written about her son Knight, and is now hoping to add a second with '4th Of July (Fireworks)'. Both tracks are taken from her highly rated fifth studio album 'Flesh Tone'. The album runs for just 37 minutes and along with 'Segue 2' the track is the longest on the album coming in at 5mins 40secs. The video to accompany the song was shot in the desert just outside Los Angeles and was co-directed by Kelis herself along with Nicole Ehrlich and John Rankine Waddell who is better known for his photography work on subjects such as Tony Blair, Britney Spears and the Spice Girls.  Her career has already seen her notch up six top five hits and this could well do enough to add another to that tally. Her work continues to be fresh and innovative, and she deserves to be at the top of her genre.

'Cosmic Love' is the sixth single to be taken from Florence & The Machine's much plundered 'Lungs' album. The previous five have enjoyed mixed success with 'Kiss With A Fist' and 'Drumming Song' missing the top forty alltogether while 'You Got The Love' made the top five twice, the second coming courtesy of a live performance of the track alongside Dizzee Rascal. The track is thought by many to be the best on the album and has previously made the top three in Ireland due to strong digital sales of the track. I'm still not really understanding the massive success that she has achieved but few can doubt her popularity.  I think this will give her a sixth top forty success but surely this should be the last release ahread of some new material. She is due to play Somerset House, the V Festival and the Latitude Festival during July before heading down to Australia for a series of gigs there.

Five piece Merseyside band The Coral release their new single '1000 Years' this week ahead of their fifth studio album 'Butterfly House'. The album has been produced by former Stone Roses producer John Leckie and work has been taking place on it for almost two years now. Their last album 'Roots & Echoes' became the fourth of their studio albums to make the top ten though it only yielded one top forty hit in 'Who's Gonna FInd Me'.  That was the eighth of their career with three of those ('Don't Think You're The First', 'In The Morning' and 'Pass It On') going on to make the top ten. They don't have a full scale British tour planned though they are due to undertake a handful of gigs later this month. They are also due to play at Oxegen in Ireland and T In The Park in Scotland later this year. I suspect that fans are more likely to wait for the album and so this single release may struggle.

Highly rated Colorado based crunk-core duo 3OH!3 enjoyed massive success earlier this year with their Katy Perry collaboration 'Starstrukk' and then narrowly missed out on a top ten hit with Ke$ha on 'Blah Blah Blah'. Despite reissuing their classic 'Don't Trust Me' it failed for a second year in a row to make the top twenty and now they have returned to work with Ke$ha for a second time on their new single 'My First Kiss'.  It's the first official track to be taken from their new Matt Squire produced studio album 'Streets Of Gold' which hits the shops next week although a video was released to accompany the track 'House Party' and Andrew WK has constructed a rock mix of that track. It's the follow up to their last album 'Want' which only made no.77 in the UK despite its hit singles. This should certainly go on and do well for them, and I expect to see this inside the top twenty on Sunday.

'Pack Up' is the latest single from twenty two year old singer / songwriter Eliza Doolittle and is tipped by The Sun newspaper as being one of the anthems of the Summer. She is the daughter of renowned singer Frances Ruffelle who represented the UK at the Eurovision Song Contest in 1994 which was held in Dublin, coming a respectable 10th in the eventual competition. She is also the grandaugher of Sylvia Young who owns the most famous stage school in London. Her debut single 'Skinny Genes' made no.22  earlier this year and sampled Andy Williams 1957 track 'Butterfly'. It was also used in an advertisement by very.co.uk.. She is due to tour with pianist Jamie Cullum later this year and is also expected to have her debut album ready for release. This single is destined to do very well for her and should see her break into the top twenty for the very first time.

R'n'b singer Ciara releases her fourth studio album 'Basic Instinct' this Summer and it is preceded this week by the release of her much hyped new single 'Ride'. The track features serial collaborator Ludacris who also appeared on her top five hit 'Oh' and has also guested with her on three other occasions. It was co-written with fellow rap / r'n'b star The Dream and was produced by the highly respected Tricky Stewart. In the UK she has had five top forty hits in her career so far including her debut single 'Goodies' which made the top spot way back in 2004. Her last hit came last year with the Justin Timberlake collaboration 'Love Sex Magic' and Diane Martel directed both that video and this new release. Curiously the video runs for a minute less than the official single edit of the track.  All in all it should certainly perform well and will ensure another UK hit is added to her tally.

Finally this week is 'Miami' which is the new single release by the highly rated Oxford based Indie five piece band Foals. It's the third single to be taken from their current 'Total Life Forever' album and it's the follow up to their 'This Orient' single which peaked at no.97. The album made no.8, although that was some five places below the peak achieved by their 2008 debut release 'Antidotes'. Their biggest hit to date was 'Cassius' which made no.26 a couple of years ago, with their only other top forty appearance coming with the 2007 hit 'Balloons'. Last weekend they played The Roundhouse at Camden while they are now due to appear in Norway, Germany and Spain before the month is out.  As this is now the third single release, and neither of its predecessors charted, I don't forsee this making the top forty next weekend.

Also released this week are 'Instinct' by Ash, 'Ivy & Gold' by Bombay Bicycle Club, 'Katy' by The Boy Who Trapped The Sun, 'The Ghost Inside' by Broken Bells, 'Princess' by Primary 1 and 'Dead American Writers' by Tired Pony.  Download only releases this week include 'Magnetic' by Cicada, 'Making Up For Lost Time' by David Ford, 'Tightrope' by Janelle Monae, 'The Rabbit' by Miike Snow, 'Popcorn' by The Muppets, 'Caught Me Slippin' by Nathan featuring Flo Rida, 'Yo Mama' by Peggy Sue, 'Beg, Steal Or Borrow' by Ray Lamontagne & The Pariah Dogs, 'Thieves' by She & Him and 'Electric Boogaloo' by Wiley featuring Jodie Connor & J2K.

JLS look bound to sell well this week and should easily be next weeks chart topper. Don't forget to stop by next week when artists releasing new singles look set to include Biffy Clyro, Mark Ronson, Plan B and Professor Green featuring Lily Allen.  Until then have yourself a good week.
