This week saw nine climbers, five new entries, one re-entry, twenty three songs going down and two were non movers. As expected the Helping Haiti held on for a second week at the top with 'Everybody Hurts' though was run close by Dizzee Rascal's collaboration with Florence & The Machine on her current hit 'You've Got The Love'.

Their duet was performed live at last weeks Brit Awards and was immediately released on download as 'You Got The Dirtee Love' and is now sitting pretty at no.2.

That new entry caused three next three singles to fall one place with Owl City ending up at no.3 with 'Fireflies', Timbaland featuring Katy Perry finding themselves at no.4 with 'If We Ever Meet Again' while Alicia Keys was at no.5 with 'Empire State Of Mind Part II'. Rihanna went up four places to no.6 with 'Rude Boy' while Glee Cast slipped two to no.7 with 'Don't Stop Believin''. Lemar got a new entry at no.8 with 'The Way Love Goes' and Glee Cast held firm at no.9 for a second week with 'Halo / Walking On Sunshine'. The final place in the top ten went to 3OH!3 featuring Katy Perry who fell four to no.10 with 'Starstrukk'.

A further five climbers were to be found in what remained of the top twenty. Jedward featuring Vanilla Ice went back up one to no.11 following the physical release of 'Under Pressure (Ice Ice Baby)' and Florence & The Machine went back up seventeen places to no.12 with 'You've Got The Love' spending its twenty fifth week on the chart. Lady Gaga climbed again with 'Bad Romance' going up five to no.15 and Jay-Z featuring Alicia Keys benefitted from their Brits performance as 'Empire State Of Mind' went up nine to no.16. Cheryl Cole went up seven as 'Parachute' found its way to no.19.

There were three climbers, three new entries and one re-entry in the lower half of the chart. Young Money featuring Lloyd went up one to no.27 with 'Bedrock' and The Courteeners got a new entry at no.28 with 'You Overdid It Doll'. Black Eyed Peas went back up two to no.33 with 'I Gotta Feeling' and Lady Gaga featuring Beyonce climbed five to no.34 with 'Telephone'. Chris Brown scored a new entry at no.35 with 'Crawl' and Cheryl Cole re-entered at no.36 with her former number one 'Fight For This Love'. Leona Lewis rounded proceedings off this week as 'I Got You' became a new entry at no.40.

'One Shot' is the latest single from X Factor phenomenon JLS who have already scored number one hits with 'Everybody In Love' and 'Beat Again'. Although they finished runners up to Alexandra Burke in the 2008 series their debut long player has gone on to rack up 900k sales which is more than twice that of her 'Overcome' album.  Last year also saw them win MOBO Awards for Best UK Newcomer and Best Song (for 'Beat Again') and already 2010 is shaping up to be another successful year for them. I'm not sure that this will be strong enough to make it all the way to the top but its top ten status is success in itself considering its the third single from their album.  Could well be inside the top five next weekend.

Errors release their brand new single 'A Rumour In Africa' this week but only as a download. For those who may be unaware of their existence they are a four piece electro band hailing from Glasgow in Scotland. They formed in 2004 but did not release their first long player 'It's Not Something But It Is Like Whatever' until 2008. This is their sixth single and is the follow up to 2008's 'Pump'. Their first release was 'Hans Herman' back in 2005 which featured 'Ah-Ha-Ha' on the flip side. The band have also just released their remix of the Manic Street Preachers track 'All Is Vanity' which features on an EP alongside mixes from Andrew Weatherall, British Sea Power and The Horrors. They have a series of dates in the UK which kick off at the end of February in Glasgow and concludes a month later at the Black Box in Belfast.

'I Got You' is the second single to be taken from Leona Lewis's second album 'Echo' although her cover of Oasis's 'Stop Crying Your Heart Out' did chart on download sales following her performance of the track on X Factor. This release is not to be confused with 'I Need You', which is the theme to current movie 'Avatar' and has been nominated for a Golden Globe.  'I Got You' is released on a CD format and comes with the additional track 'Heartbeat'. Her last single 'Happy' peaked at no.2 which was a disappointing performance for the opening single from her second album.  I don't see this performing much better, and I certainly don't think this will become her fourth number one though the Avatar theme could do that if it gets released.

Sixty one year old legendary singer and poet Gil Scott-Heron has just released his new album 'I'm New Here' and this week sees him release the track 'Me & The Devil' as the first single from it. It's released on 7" vinyl while the album is his eighteenth studio long player and is released on XL Recordings. Despite having a high profile amongst music critics he has yet to make an appearance on the UK chart and so its hard to see him breaking that tradition some forty years after the release of his first album 'Small Talk At 125th & Lenox'. Zane Lowe featured the single as his "Hottest Record In The World" while The Guardian journalist Jude Rodgers has already labelled his album as one of the best of the new decade.  High praise indeed!

Blood Red Shoes are a Brighton based duo consisting of Laura-Mary Carter and Steven Ansell who were named after a Ginger Rogers / Fred Astaire musical. They formed back in 2005 and released their debut single 'Victory For The Magpie' the same year. Their album 'Box Of Secrets' made the top fifty in 2008 and now they are about to release the follow up 'Fire Like This'. Their debut album yielded two minor hits in 'You Bring Me Down' and 'Say Something, Say Anything' but they have yet to make a top forty appearance. 'Light It Up' is the first single to be lifted from the new album and they are about to embark on an extensive eleven date tour of the UK. It is released on 7" vinyl and is looking set to do well for them, though I'm not quite sure that it will do enough to grace the higher end of the chart.

'Wear My Kiss' is an important release for all girl trio Sugababes.  Things looked promising for them when 'Get Sexy' made it to no.2 but then Keisha left the band in a blaze of publicity leaving Jade Ewen to take up the reins as the new member. Their first release as a trio was 'About A Girl' which made no.8 and now comes the follow up 'Wear My Kiss'.  Their 'Sweet 7' album is due for release in March and is the follow up to 'Catfights & Spotlights' which was a relative flop for them, spawning only one top ten hit. It does seem slightly ridiculous that the band now does not contain any of the original members and so it is little more than a franchise. The quality of the songs has dipped off too and I do wonder if this is the beginning of the end for one of the best pop bands in recent years.

Ellie Goulding has widely been tipped as the artist to watch out for in 2010 so now its time to see if she can deliver.  She won the Critics Choice award at this years Brits and she also won the BBC Sound of 2010 poll which has traditionally been a good barometer as to who will succeed in the twelve months ahead. 'Starry Eyed' is released as a single this week ahead of her forthcoming debut album 'Lights'.  It comes with the Little Noise session version and the Russ Chimes remix and is the follow up to last years low key single 'Under The Sheets' which peaked at no.53. She has recently written two songs for Diana Vickers debut album and looks set for big things as both a singer and a songwriter.  Hopes are riding high that this will see her secure her first top twenty appearance.

Jay Sean (or Kamaljit Singh Jhooti as his parents would know him) has been slowly but steadily climbing the charts with his Lil Jon / Sean Paul collaboration 'Do You Remember' and now it finally gets its own CD format release. It's the second track to be lifted from his third studio album 'All Or Nothing' which also sees him perform with fellow r'n'b artists Craig David, Lil Wayne and former Sugababe Keisha Buchanan. The album has performed disappointingly in the UK peaking at just no.62 despite featuring the top three single 'Down'. Conversely his last studio album 'My Own Way' got all the way to no.6 despite holding no top ten hits. This is Sean's eighth top forty appearance to date and could yet see him secure a fourth top ten hit.

The Stranglers are aiming for their fifth decade of hits with the release of their 'Retro Rockets' single.  There is a Facebook campaign to push them back into the charts although at the time of writing it only has 2.5k members which is well short of the total sales required to hit the top forty.  The band formed in 1974 The band have an extensive tour lined up for March and are also set to play Glastonbury in the Summer.  Drummer Jet Black is now 70 and so there are questions as to how long the band can keep going!  They have notched up twenty three top forty hits with their last being 'Big Thing Coming' in 2004. Their career is well captured on their forthcoming thirty five track compilation 'Decades Apart' which also features this single.  It would be great to see them back in the top forty.

Also released this week are 'Hole In My Heart' by Alphabeat, 'Sharks Tooth' by Archie Bronson Outfit, 'High Road' by Broken Bells, 'O Maybe I' by Chapel Club, 'The Opposite Of Adults' by Chiddy Bang, 'Nothing Like You' by Frightened Rabbit, 'Morning Light' by Girls, 'With Days Like This As Cheap As Chewing Gum, Why Would Anyone Want To Work?' by Hot Club De Paris, 'Hustle' by Tuung, 'Undercover Martyn' by Two Door Cinema Club and White Feather' by Wolfmother. Download only releases include 'Empire State Of Mind Part II' by Alicia Keys, 'Fever' by Beyonce, 'Boy Girl' by Bomb The Bass, 'Dreams' by Brandi Charlie, 'Suddenly' by BT, 'Into The Blue / Mae Angen Llong Ar Gapten' by Cerys Matthews, 'I Love Your Smile' by Charlie Winston, 'Love Cry' by Four Tet, 'Don't Go There' by Giggs featuring B.o.B., 'Paper Romance' by Groove Armada, 'In My Head' by Jason Derulo, 'Feast Of The Heart' by Jesca Hoop and 'Sea Change' by Turin Brakes.

With physical sales still strong I expect Helping Haiti to squeeze a third week in at the top but Florence & The Machine featuring Dizzee Rascal and JLS could both run the race close. Don't forget to stop by next week when artists releasing new singles look set to include The Automatic, Boyzone, Gorillaz featuring Mos Def & Bobby Womack and Ok Go.  Until then have yourself a good week.
